From just outside Atlanta, Erika’s love for all things nature took her to Colorado and Oregon before coming to Asheville. When she attended the Jewelry Design program at Haywood Community College, her love for geology mixed with her love for jewelry and enjoys sharing her passion with museum visitors! Her vast knowledge of minerals and jewelry make her great at helping visitors find special treasures for the whole family!

Originally from Portland, Maine, Bonnie has traveled extensively and enjoys learning about new places and cultures. After retiring from the Air Force as a law office manager and paralegal, she settled in Asheville in 1997 and returned to school to earn an MLA degree, with a focus in ecofeminism from UNCA. She is a member of Wild Bodema, a women’s drum troupe that performs in the local area.

With a B.S. in Sustainable Development and Agroecology from Appalachian State, Laura joins CESM after working as an Education Ranger at Great Smoky Mountains National Park. She is originally from Raleigh, NC where she worked at the Office of Sustainability. Her fun personality and love of science makes an unforgettable experience for visitors and students!

Education Specialist: Laura Bochner

As a graduate of Lafayette College with a B.S. in Geology, Laura most recently comes to CESM from the Carolina Mountain Land Conservancy as their Stewardship Associate. Originally from Bethlehem, PA, Laura has worked as an Educator at the DaVinci Science Center in Allentown, PA and is excited to share her “GEONORMOUS” enthusiasm with students of all ages! She thinks earth science totally ROCKS and is eager to teach all!

Weekend Visitor Services Assistant: Judith Cheney
Judith majored in French at Northwestern University in Illinois and studied at the Sorbonne in Paris. Along with being a professional artist, she has also worked as a newspaper reporter. Her paintings are done in the Americana style.
